‘Tomb Raider’ Clip Shows Lara Croft Has the Worst Luck!!! Check It Out!!

Warner Bros. has released a Tomb Raider clip that shows the upcoming film is definitely taking its tone from the 2013 reboot of the video game series. The new movie (which is also a reboot, leaving the Angelina Jolie films behind) follows a young Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander) as she travels to a hidden island in search of answers behind her father’s disappearance. Once there, she finds the nefarious group known as “Trinity” and must outwit them in order to survive and discover the answers she seeks.

In this clip, we see Lara fleeing from Trinity soldiers only to get near a waterfall. Thankfully, there’s an old plane she can grab onto. Unfortunately, the plane is old and starts falling apart the second Lara starts running across it. When she exclaims, “Really?” as the plane starts to fall apart with her inside of it, you can see where she’s coming from. It’s a really encouraging scene because even though it’s reminiscent of the scene from the 2013 game where Lara is rushed down a river (and if you don’t press “X” at the right time you get impaled on a tree branch), you can see that the new movie at least has a sense of humor about itself and its protagonist’s circumstances. We’re still waiting on the first great film adaptation of a video game, so maybe Tomb Raider will be it.

Check out the Tomb Raider clip below. The film opens March 16th and also stars Dominic West, Walton Goggins, and Daniel Wu.

Here’s the official synopsis for Tomb Raider:

Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen.  Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent.  Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father’s global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he’s truly gone.  Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara can’t understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death.

Leaving everything she knows behind, Lara goes in search of her dad’s last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan.  But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will be extremely treacherous.  Suddenly, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Lara, who—against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit—must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown.  If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name tomb raider.
