After unveiled a first look a few weeks ago, Netflix has released the first full-length Lost in Space reboot trailer, giving us an extensive peek at the highly anticipated new sci-fi series. It’s clear from the get-go that this may be one of Netflix’s most expensive ventures yet, as this looks less like a sci-fi TV series and more like a blockbuster sci-fi movie. The streaming service’s most expensive shows previously have been the period pieces The Get Down and The Crown, but I would not be surprised in the slightest to learn that they surpassed their own record with Lost in Space.
Created by Dracula Untold screenwriting duo Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless with Prison Break and Once Upon a Time in Wonderland alum Zack Estrin serving as showrunner, Lost in Space is described as a “dramatic and modern reimagining” of the classic 1960s sci-fi series. The story takes place 30 years in the future, when space colonization is now a reality, and revolves around the Robinson family as they become one of a few selected to go and create a better world on a new planet. But during their venture, the Robinsons find themselves thrown off course and struggling to find the way towards their new home.
While Netflix recently launched the sci-fi series Altered Carbon, that was more of an action noir, whereas this very much looks to be an action-adventure series. I’m actually pretty impressed by the effects on display, and nabbing Parker Posey for the key role of Dr. Smith is enough to get me to watch at least the first episode.
Check out the Lost in Space reboot trailer below. The show stars Toby Stephens, Molly Parker, Ignacio Serricchio, Taylor Russell, Mina Sundwall, Maxwell Jenkins, and Raza Jaffrey. All 10 episodes of the first season debut on Netflix on April 13th.
