‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ Production Pushes Back to Late Fall!!!

If The Crimes of Grindelwald had you hungry for more magical adventures ASAP, it looks like you might have to wait just a bit longer for the next chapter. Deadline reports that Warner Bros. is pushing back the start of production on the third Fantastic Beasts film, which originally set to start filming in July of this year. Now, the production is eyeing late Autumn to get in front of cameras, for one very simple reason… the film needs more prep time. Fair enough.

According to the report, the production team needs more time to deliver the followup to Crimes of Grindelwald, which earned $648.8 million worldwide in its 2018 theatrical run. The film would need to be in soft prep to get in front of cameras this summer, and while we’ve seen Warners rush the pre-production on event films to meet release dates (long hard stare at Suicide Squad), Deadline notes that Warner executives are embracing a new approach and giving big productions the time they need to percolate. Fantastic Beasts 3 was rumored to be on track for a 2020 release date.

The other interesting factor here is the A-list cast members, who are being alerted about the new production start to make changes in their working schedule. Recently, Warner Bros. and DC’s long-developed The Flash movie was pushed to accommodate star Ezra Miller’s schedule on the third Beasts film. At the time, Variety reported that the Flash movie would roll into production in late 2019. With those two schedules now seemingly set on a collision course, will The Flash get bumped back again, or will Warners put their next solo superhero movie on the fast track?

Ultimately, the Fantastic Beasts release date shift is probably a good thing for the film — fans and critics were mixed-negative on The Crimes of Grindelwald, which earned some hard side-eye for messing with the Harry Potter canon in questionable ways. Hopefully, if the creative team has a bit more time to nail the formula, they get put the magic back in the wizarding world for Fantastic Beasts 3.
