‘Dune’: ‘Aquaman’ Star Jason Momoa Joins the Reboot!!!

Who knew that the song “All the Stars” from Black Panther was actually about Legendary’s Dune reboot? The latest name to join Denis Villeneuve‘s star-studded ensemble is Aquaman star Jason Momoa, who is in talks to play Duncan Idaho in the big-budget film, Collider has confirmed.

Timothée Chalamet is set to star alongside Oscar IsaacRebecca FergusonJavier BardemDave BautistaZendaya, Stellan Skarsgard and Charlotte Rampling. If there’s a weak link in that cast, I have no idea who it is. I mean, the Dune poster might have to be the size of an IMAX screen to fit all these names.

Based on the acclaimed novels by Frank HerbertDune is a space-faring adventure story that is rich with political intrigue and complex machinations. The story follows Chalamet’s Paul Atreides, the heir apparent of the Atreides family. When they assume control of the desert planet Arrakis and its valuable spice commodity, their rule is contested by competing noble families, leading to betrayal and ultimately rebellion.

Momoa is nearing a deal to play Duncan Idaho, a fierce warrior who serves the Duke (Isaac) and tries to protect the Atreides family once he is slain.

Villeneuve co-wrote the script with Oscar-winner Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) and Jon Spaihts (Prometheus). The director will also serve as a producer alongside Mary Parent and Cale Boyter, while Brian HerbertByron MerrittThomas Tull, and Kim Herbert will sere as executive producers. Kevin J. Anderson will act a creative consultant on the project.

Momoa is coming off DC’s billion-dollar grosser Aquaman and he also voiced the same superhero in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part. Momoa is currently filming Apple’s sci-fi series See, but Dune offers him the chance to work with one of Hollywood’s top directors, and with a cast like this one, it’s easy to see why he’d tackle a bad-ass supporting role here despite proving himself as a lead with Aquaman. He’s represented by WME and his casting was first reported by Variety.
