What happens in Vegas is supposed to stay in Vegas… but not when it comes to CinemaCon, which kicks off Monday night with a screening of Neon’s Wild Rose starring Jessie Buckley. With Fox absorbed by Disney, Amazon canceling its luncheon and Sony taking the year off, the schedule is a bit lighter this year, so I had plenty of time to roam the convention halls and take photos of the various movie posters on display.

For the uninitiated, CinemaCon is a convention where studios and exhibition vendors show their new wares to theater owners to get them excited about the rest of the year. Studios fly out stars and filmmakers to tub-thump new movies via trailers, never-before-seen footage, and in some cases, the finished films themselves. I’ll be recapping each studio presentation, while our own Steve ‘Frosty’ Weintraub will be interviewing a lot of the big names. The stakes are relatively low so the vibe is looser, and everyone hits the tables, where I live and die by the immortal words of Wesley Snipes and ‘always bet on black.’

This year’s crop of posters, banners and standees includes blockbusters like Avengers: Endgame, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, X-Men: Dark Phoenix and Shazam!; family films like The Lion King, Aladdin, Detective Pikachu, Sonic the Hedgehog, Dora and the Lost City of Gold; genre films like Child’s Play, Pet Sematary, The Intruder, The Lodge, and 47 Meters Down: Uncaged; female-driven comedies like Late Night, The Hustle and Where’d You Go, Bernadette?; plus music-driven films like Rocketman and Yesterday, as well as animated films such as Frozen 2, The Angry Birds Movie 2, Missing Link, Uglydolls and Abominable, the latter of which offered a very cuddly poster.
