We’ve managed to snag a couple pieces of licensing artwork promoting Sony Pictures’ upcoming slate of movies. The big one is the 2020 Ghostbusters that Jason Reitman is directing. As we’ve previously reported, the movie is set to be released on July 10, 2020 (which means it’s filming sometime this year) and so far they’ve cast Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Carrie Coon. However, the project is not a reboot, and Reitman says “What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.” What that means in terms of connections to the original movies remains unclear, but it’s a definitive way of saying that the new movie will not acknowledge Paul Feig’s 2016 reboot.

The other artwork highlights Sony’s other major IP. So, for example, while there may not be a Goosebumps 3 in the works as far as we know, it’s still a valuable property to the studio and they want to keep licensing it and using it to their advantage. The “Ghostbusters 35” is to mark the 35th anniversary of Ghostbusters and you’ve got some temporary stuff for Peter Rabbit 2, Jumanji 3 (I seriously doubt they’ll title it with something as bland as “The Next Chapter”), and Bloodshot, the comic book adaptation starring Vin Diesel.

Do these logos tell us anything substantial about the movies themselves? Of course not! They’re for licensing purposes, but they might provide a hint of where the marketing is going. Other times, they’re really just placeholders, and that’s fine too. This poster also gives us a window for these movies like Peter Rabbit 2 coming in spring 2020 (a pretty fast turnaround when you consider the first film was released in 2018) and Bloodshot arrives in February 2020 (specifically, its currently release date is February 21, 2020). Of course, Sony has more than these movies on its slate (you may notice the absence of a little movie called Spider-Man: Far From Home), but this is more of a guide than a production slate.
