Cassian Andor’s Star Wars TV Show Gets a Synopsis!! Check It Out!!

Played by Mexican actor Diego Luna, Cassian Andor was first introduced to audiences in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Taking place right before the events of A New Hope, Rogue One was Lucasfilm‘s first attempt to tell a story adjacent to the Skywalker saga. Cassian Andor was an intelligence officer for the Rebel Alliance. Along with Felicity Jones‘ Jyn Erso, Andor led the members of “Rogue One” on a mission to steal the Death Star plans and deliver them to the rebellion.

In November 2018, it was announced that Cassian Andor would be receiving his own solo series on Disney+. Diego Luna is reprising his role as Andor, and Alan Tyduk will return to voice the recommissioned Empire droid K-2SO. Little has been revealed about the series until now. The Illiuminerdi has uncovered the synopsis for the show, which is as follows:

“The adventures of Rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Diego Luna will reprise the role of Andor, which he originated in the 2016 film. The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.”

Based on the logline, it seems like this series will be Star Wars‘ first foray into the spy thriller genre, much like The Mandalorian is an attempt at Westerns. The synopsis also suggests a more mature tone, as the plot will likely involve less flashy action and instead involve slower, more intimate scenes between characters.

The Cassian Andor series was initially supposed to begin filming in June of this year. However, script rewrites led to production being pushed, and there is no longer a date set for the show to begin filming. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first Star Wars series to be delayed. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series was put on indefinite hold in the middle of pre-production. There are several reasons for the show’s delay, from the head of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, being unhappy with the script to the story being similar to that of The Mandalorian.

As the Skywalker saga concluded with The Rise of Skywalker, Disney and Lucasfilm are starting to shift their focus in new directions. Not only are they focusing more on television shows, but they also unveiled Star Wars: The High Republic in January. The new initiative involves novels and comic books set in an era hundreds of years before the events of the prequel movies. The future is bright for Star Wars fans, as there is potentially something for everyone coming soon.
