‘Alien’ and ‘Predator’ Rights Acquired by Marvel Comics!!

Marvel Comics has acquired the rights to both Alien and Predator.

  • This move will “feature new and classic characters from Earth and beyond to explore never-before-seen corners of both the Alien and Predator universes,” according to Marvel.
  • Per ComicBook.com, the two franchises were owned by Dark Horse comics.
  • Marvel hasn’t released any specific tiles or creative teams to work on projects related to the characters. But the company released some teaser images that show Alien’s “Big Chap” Xenomorph and Predator, who appears to be targeting the Avengers in the photo.
  • Artist David Fincher said in a release: “Alien and Predator are the two of the most identifiable, iconic characters of all time, and I love them for that,” said Finch. “But mostly, it’s being fortunate enough to be a kid when they were new. I’ve seen every movie they’ve ever been in, and I cannot wait to see them wreaking havoc in the Marvel Universe. I drew my pictures of them with a massive smile on my face.”
  • Finch created the following mock covers for the characters:

Will Alien and Predator join the MCU and Marvel universe?

Not necessarily. The Marvel Cinematic Universe — run through Marvel Studios and Disney — hasn’t brought in the “Fantastic Four” or recent “X-Men” franchises yet. So it’s unlikely they’ll be throwing Alien and Predator in there yet.

The characters might not appear in the general Marvel comics universe, either.

IGN said: “To be clear, the Predator teaser isn’t meant to suggest the two franchises will be integrated into the Marvel Universe (as was the case when Marvel reacquired the Conan license in 2018). Marvel’s new comics will instead expand on the characters and settings of the various Alien and Predator movies. Still, it’s always possible fans will see some sort of Alien vs. Predator vs. Avengers crossover down the road.”
