‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’: ‘Star Wars’ Show Reportedly Casting a Young Luke and Leia!!

Disney+’s upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series is reportedly casting a young Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa. The Star Wars spin-off is set to take place 8 years after George Lucas’ prequel trilogy, or between the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope. It will presumably follow the titular Jedi Master (played by Ewan McGregor) during his time as “Ben Kenobi” on Tatooine.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith saw Anakin Skywalker embrace the identity of Darth Vader. Distraught by his fall to the dark side, Padmé Amidala loses the will to live, but not before giving birth to Luke and Leia. The children of Padmé and Anakin are then split up to protect them from Vader and the Emperor. Leia is adopted by Senator Bail Organa and taken to Alderaan, and Obi-Wan takes Luke to his family on Tatooine, where he pledges to watch over him.

According to The Illuminerdi, a casting call has gone out for the roles of a young Luke and Leia in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. The production is reportedly looking for a “precocious” boy and girl (ages 8-11) to fill two lead roles. While it isn’t confirmed that these children would be playing Luke and Leia, it certainly makes sense given the 8-year timeline and importance placed on these roles.

Late last year, reports said that Luke would be appearing in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series (along with Joel Edgerton as Luke’s uncle Owen). However, this was back when the writer, Hossein Amnini, was still attached to the project. The series has since reworked its shooting schedule and replaced Amnini with Joby Harold (before COVID-19). This was all in an attempt to distance itself from The Mandalorian’s narrative, which focuses on Dyn Jarren as he watches over Baby Yoda, a plot supposedly too similar to what Amnini wrote for Obi-Wan and Luke.

The direction of the restructured Obi-Wan Kenobi series remains to be seen, but it seems likely that it will heavily feature Luke given his importance to Obi-Wan’s story. The inclusion of Leia is somewhat surprising. In Star Wars: A New Hope, we’re lead to believe Obi-Wan has spent most of his time (if not all) since Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith as a hermit on Tatooine. Since Leia would be living on Alderaan during the events of the Disney+ series, Obi-Wan could continue traveling the galaxy and aid Bail Organa in the Rebellion against the Empire.
