Speculation has been swirling about the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 plot. We’ve been getting brief teases about the film, but today, Marvel has finally released an official synopsis for the highly anticipated sequel. Here’s what it says.
Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
Let the speculation begin! So when it comes to “old foes become new allies”, does this mean that the Collector will aid the Guardians? Or could it be Nebula? Possibly Yondu?
It’s also interesting that the question regarding Peter Quill’s father is front and center rather than side-plot in the upcoming film. It will be interesting to see how that factors into arcs for the four other Guardians.
Finally, I’m sure fans of the comics are probably salivating at the prospect of more characters from the pages coming to the big screen, but since I’ve never read the Guardians comics, I’m at loss at predicting who might be making the transition.
Much like Guardians of the Galaxy, a property like Doctor Strange deserves its own perspective, its own world envisioned by its director, Sinister helmer Scott Derrickson. In a time where Marvel seems to be really honing their formula and making some risky moves, such as getting the great Ryan Coogler to come on board for the intensely anticipated Black Panther movie, following his sensational Creed, now would be the time to make a strange pick to counterbalance the astounding efficiency action-genre pyrotechnics of the pretty solid Captain America: Civil War. And Doctor Strange is exactly the kind of character that would warrant a slightly risky stage on which to ponder infinity, reality, and all that good stuff.
Though we’re still waiting on a longer, more detailed trailer for the film, today brought news of another sort for Derrickson’s movie: an official synopsis. For those familiar with Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), the description of the story won’t be particularly shocking in any way, but those unfamiliar might very well learn something. It’s still secretive enough to keep out anything revealing about the characters played by Mads Mikkelsen, Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, but it does give us at least one concrete setting: New York’s Greenwich Village. The film itself will be hitting theaters nationwide on November 4th.
Here’s the official synopsis for Doctor Strange:
Marvel’s Doctor Strange follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe.
