‘The Paper’: Upcoming ‘The Office’ Spin-Off Already Renewed for Season 2!!

Just a day before the premiere, Peacock has decided to keep The Paper in circulation. The streamer has renewed the follow-up to the hit sitcom The Office for Season 2. This comes several days after the streamer revealed that all episodes of the new series will be available to stream on September 4. Typically, news of a binge drop for many shows outside of Netflix, especially when the show is close to the premiere date, is not good news, but for The Paper, the reality could not be more different. The streamer decided to release all episodes at once after realizing that viewers enjoy The Office as a binge. The early renewal signals a vote of confidence in the show from the network, hinting at a bright future for the sitcom.

The Paper is set in the same universe as the Steve Carrell-led 2001 sitcom, but it’s not a continuation of the same. The two shows feature several connections, with the same documentary crew following both businesses. They find that Oscar from Dunder Mifflin now works at the newspaper after his former company closed down. “The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch in the Emmy Award-winning series The Office find a new subject when they discover a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it,” reads the series’ official description.

Domhnall Gleeson (Ned Sampson) leads the cast, which also includes Sabrina Impacciatore (Esmeralda), Chelsea Frei (Mare), Melvin Gregg (Detrick), Gbemisola Ikumelo (Adelola), Alex Edelman (Adam), Ramona Young (Nicole), Tim Key, and Oscar Nuñez (Oscar Martinez). The show is co-created by Greg Daniels, who also created the original series. Daniels also serves as the co-showrunner, executive producer, and writer of the pilot episode. He splits these credits with Michael Koman. Other executive producers include Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas.

‘The Paper’ Co-Creator Has Plans For Season 2

An early renewal gives the show’s creative team enough time to make the second season and make it available to viewers on time. “We definitely have ideas. We’ve been talking about stories for a possible Season 2,Daniels said in an interview before the renewal was announced. “It’ll be interesting to see what the audience thinks. We’ve gotten really good feedback from people inside the company and journalists and friends, but you never know what the broader world of Office fans are going to think of it.

Watch all episodes of The Paper on Peacock on Thursday, September 4.
