Less than one week removed from the Season 1 finale, USA Network has decided the fate of The Rainmaker. The network has announced that The Rainmaker has been renewed and will indeed move forward with another season. The John Grisham adaptation has been met with divisive reception, earning a Rotten 50% score from critics but a solid 86% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s also found success streaming on Peacock, particularly near the second half of the season. While a firm release date has yet to be announced, USA Network did confirm that The Rainmaker Season 2 will premiere in 2026.
The Rainmaker, which comes from Lionsgate and Blumhouse Television Studios, has averaged around 1.3 million viewers per episode. Viewership consistently rose throughout the first season, which led to the Season 1 finale being the most-watched episode thus far — people can’t get enough of The Rainmaker. USA Network confirmed that it’s the network’s most-watched new series in seven years, meaning a renewal was likely a no-brainer. The Rainmaker Season 1 was showrun by Michael Seitzman with John Grisham working as an executive producer. Both are expected back in Season 2, and work on the second season is expected to begin immediately.
The Rainmaker follows Rudy Baylor (Milo Callaghan), a young man fresh out of law school who faces off against courtroom lion Leo Drummond and his girlfriend, Sarah. He spends the first season unraveling a pair of conspiracy theories that nearly gets him killed more than once. Mad Men’s John Slattery also stars in The Rainmaker, alongside Lana Parrilla, Madison Iseman, P.J. Byrne, Dan Fogler, Wade Briggs, and Robyn Cara.
How Can You Watch New Episodes of ‘The Rainmaker’?
There will be no more new episodes of The Rainmaker until Season 2, but all episodes of Season 1 can be streamed on Peacock. The series is currently in the Peacock top 10, hanging with other beloved procedurals like Chicago Fire and Law & Order: SVU. Director Francis Ford Coppola previously tried his hand at adapting John Grisham’s Rainmaker novel in the 1997 film starring Matt Damon. Danny DeVito also stars in the film, but it’s not currently streaming anywhere. However, with The Rainmaker gaining popularity by the day, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Damon’s film version return to streaming soon.
