‘Spider-Noir’: Nicolas Cage led Series Will Have No Connection to the ‘Spider-Verse’ Films!!

It’s impossible to pinpoint exactly what Nicolas Cage is best known for, but in the last few years, Spider-Man Noir has emerged as one of his most iconic roles. Cage first played the character in 2018 in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and he briefly reprised the role in 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Cage is even attached to headline a live-action Spider-Man Noir series in the works at Prime Video, and all episodes of the show have been set for release on May 27. The series is set against the backdrop of New York in the 1930s, and it will follow a down-on-his-luck investigator who happens to be the city’s only superhero.

Fans were taken aback earlier this year when the first images of Cage as Spider-Noir surfaced online, and it was confirmed that he would play Ben Reilly in the series. This came as a shock, considering his version of the character in the animated Spider-Man films was an alternate version of Peter Parker. Still, Prime Video has built out an impressive ensemble of stars opposite Cage in the show, including Lamorne Morris as Robbie Robertson, Brendan Gleeson as Silvermane, Jack Huston as Flint Marlo, and more.

As promotion picks up for the marketing of Spider-Noir, this means both new looks at the show and more interviews with creatives. Empire Magazine released a new-look image of Cage’s Spider-Noir in the series, along with an in-depth interview with showrunner Oren Uziel, and he confirmed that Spider-Noir will not be a continuation of the Spider-Verse movies:

“Same character, different universe. It’s a different flavor of that character, though it’s still Nic’s voice. It’s not a continuation of Into the Spider-Verse. Once Phil and Chris introduced the idea of the multiverse, I think you’re allowed to take things and make them your own.”

When Does ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ Come Out?

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse has been set for release on June 20, 2027. After stepping back in Across the Spider-Verse, Cage is expected to star in a much larger role in the third and final Spider-Verse film. It’s experienced quite a few delays to this point, but it seems likely that it will stay put for next summer. The film will pick up immediately after the events of Across the Spider-Verse, with Miles trapped in another dimension.
