Jeff Daniels joins the cast of The Morning Show Season 5
Jeff Daniels has joined Apple TV’s drama series The Morning Show for its upcoming fifth season, Deadline reports. He will play Lukas, a self-made billionaire and founder of a well-known investment firm, in a major recurring role. Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston headline and executive produce the series.
Daniels joins returning cast members Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Nicole Beharie and Jon Hamm in the Apple TV newsroom drama. The Newsroom actor is returning to a series centered on broadcast journalism. However, his character Lukas is not a journalist and is the billionaire founder of an investment company. Apple TV announced the casting as production continues on the next installment of the series.
Media Res produces The Morning Show, with Charlotte Stoudt serving as showrunner and executive producer. Mimi Leder directs and executive produces the series. Michael Ellenberg, Lindsey Springer, Zander Lehmann and Micah Schraft also executive produce. Reese Witherspoon executive produces with Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine, while Jennifer Aniston executive produces with Kristin Hahn for Echo Films.
Season four takes place in spring 2024, nearly two years after the events of the third season. After completing the UBA NBN merger, the newsroom faces greater responsibility and internal tensions. The storyline explores hidden motives and questions about truth in a polarized America. Season three received 16 Emmy nominations, and Billy Crudup won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for playing Cory Ellison.
Jeff Daniels is a two-time Emmy winner for his performances in The Newsroom and Godless. He recently appeared in Apple TV’s comedy Shrinking as Jimmy’s father. Daniels also starred in American Rust. The series ran for two seasons across Showtime and Prime Video. He also appeared in Netflix’s limited series A Man In Full.
