‘Criminal Record’ Season 2 Trailer Finds Peter Capaldi & Cush Jumbo Working to Thwart A Dangerous Plot!! Check It Out!!

Apple TV has become known as one of the go-to streaming destinations for prestige television. From sci-fi darlings like Severance, Pluribus, and Foundation, to deep-cutting dramas like Shrinking and the comedic record-breaker The Studio, the name of the brand is high cinematic quality and rich storytelling buoyed by A-list talent across the board. It’s been a winning strategy, too, scoring 22 Emmys at last year’s awards, rivaling HBO Max and Netflix with its top programs. Now, they’re about to return to the tried-and-true format of the police procedural once more with Season 2 of the crime thriller Criminal Record launching this month on April 22.

Criminal Record pairs Oscar winner Peter Capaldi and Critics’ Choice nominee Cush Jumbo as Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty and Detective Sergeant June Lenker, respectively, who were initially brought together after a mysterious phone call drew them to an old murder case in need of re-examination. Through their work, the two rivals experience the travails of policing in modern London, where the truth can all too often be twisted and controlled by bad actors. In Season 2, however, the scope of their investigation is about to expand. After a young man is brutally stabbed to death at a political rally, they have to forge an uneasy alliance to find the killer, but they are instead caught up in a sweeping undercover operation to foil a much more dangerous plot that puts all of London at risk.

Ahead of the premiere, Apple TV has finally shared the first trailer, illustrating the stakes for both detectives. A sinister voice opens the footage, talking of how the police are coming for them before Hegarty lays out what’s unfolding. A far-right extremist group has been trafficking weaponry in preparation for something more sinister that everyone is racing to uncover. However, it’s swiftly revealed that a bomb has been set in the heart of London, and the mystery man is all too eager to taunt officers with the constant ticking. Hegarty and Lenker are forced to reckon with the fact that the only way to put out this fire and save lives is to rely on each other, though that’s easier said than done with protests erupting and political tensions at a boiling point. All they can focus on is how to ensure this dangerous scenario is a save they make, not one they miss.

‘Criminal Record’ Brings in Additional Firepower for Season 2

Paul Rutman created the procedural and steered its first season to immediate success with a 90% Rotten Tomatoes score on Apple TV. Collider‘s Maggie Boccella gave it a 9/10 in her review at the time, saying the BAFTA nominee’s writing “sticks with you far beyond the confines of the show’s eight episodes, forcing you to reevaluate the way our own world works.” The duo of Capaldi and Jumbo also earned plenty of praise, though this time around, they’ll get to share the screen with a freshly-reinforced ensemble including newcomers Dustin Demri-Burns, Luca Pasqualino, Luther Ford, Lyndsey Marshal, and Peter Sullivan, and returning faces Shaun Dooley, Stephen Campbell Moore, and Charlie Creed-Miles.

Criminal Record Season 2 kicks off on April 22 with new episodes every Wednesday through June 10. Check out the trailer in the player above.
