The Devil’s Hand (2014) Review!!

devils handSynopsis – When young girls start to go missing within a religious cult, older followers fear a long-told prophecy while the younger members suspect abusive elders are killing them off.

My Take –  The promos kinda mislead you in believing this film is just another possession based horror flick, but instead its a very chewable entertaining slasher flick!! This movie is about exactly what I bet goes on in those freak brain-washed Amish communities – “Get away with murder- literally in the name of GOD”. The plot itself is very interesting – 6 girls born on the 6th month 6th day that on their 18th b-day one will be left & she will be the devil hands or “Drommelkind” & now fast forward to 18 years later & a killer is picking them off one by one!

devil2Since one was killed by her own mother after birth, the remaining five are the ones to look out for & its up to us to believe if the prophecy is true? Well the film answers every question laid out in the viewers mind in as moderately violent way as possible! While portraying the Amish community, the amount of paranoia and fear the town shared & the use of dagger in the “Kill” sequences, I couldn’t help but remember The Village & I Know What You Did Last Summer, the director seems to have created a semi hybrid of this two! The film looks good, thanks to Frank Godwin’s cinematography, and has some talented actors in it, including young leads Alycia Debnam Carey, Adelaide Kane and Leah Pipes (though the latter looks about 10 years too old for her role) & Colm Meaney, Rufus Sewell and Jennifer Carpenter.

devils-hand-(2014)-large-pictureWhile Meaney gets ample screen time to provide a good performance as the creepy & powerful Elder Beacon, its unfortunate the only two known faces Sewell & Carpenter are stuck mainly as back ground props. The twist at the end is pretty alright (one of my guesses). On the whole The Devils Hand is a surprisingly good mystery/horror/ thriller movie that keeps you guessing until most viewers guess right, with a perfect atmosphere set up the film deals with one of the most scariest things of all, evil done in the name of God while in cooperating itself as a slasher flick as well! Ignore the reviews, if you are a fan of this genre, you may like this one!
