‘El Paso, Elsewhere’: LaKeith Stanfield to Produce, Star in Video Game Adaptation!!

Slo-mo shootouts against vampires make El Paso, Elsewhere a pretty cool game, and LaKeith Stanfield clearly feels it will make a cool movie, too, as he’s starring in and producing an adaptation of Strange Scaffold’s horror shooter gem.

Stanfield Heads for El Paso, Elsewhere

Stanfield will make the film with veteran action movie producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers, Madame Web) and Colin Stark but is currently without a writer or director for the package, which they hope will be an alluring sell in the current boon for video game adaptations.

The game was released just last September and sees a vampire hunter, James Savage, hunting down his ex-girlfriend Janet, who just so happens to be a powerful vampire seeking to deliver the end of the world. Playing much like early Max Payne games, the neo-noir shooter sees Savage descend the levels of an impossible building in order to vanquish his former love while recalling their relationship in pulpy noir monologues.

The official logline provided by the publishers makes it sound fairly close in tone and style to the game.

“Recovering from a toxic relationship, James Savage (Stanfield) confronts both his inner demons and enigmatic ex-girlfriend, Janet, before she executes a world-ending ritual. James navigates her reality-bending universe of ethereal monsters while facing the truth of his own addictions and skewed sense of self-worth. James learns that the only route to love is through healing.”

LaKeith Stanfield is best known for roles in Judas and the Black Messiah, Sorry to Bother You, Knives Out, Get Out, and Uncut Gems.
