Special Mentions – Bollywood 2013!!!

1. Mickey Virus

Cast- Manish Paul, Eli Avram, Dean Alexandrou

Director- Saurabh Varma

Plot- When Delhi Police comes across an unusual case revolving around hacking they seek help of an expert who thinks like them only to come across a lazy hacker Mickey Arora.

Our take- A project completely dependent upon the already famous comic persona of TV actor-anchor, Manish Paul, MICKEY VIRUS is a very entertaining film. It has an enjoyable first half, mostly providing the funny moments through its Computer-ish dialogues, having a strong youth appeal using the Delhi ambiance, the humour element takes a back seat post interval since the film turns into a thrilling crime mystery, still the racy pace doesn’t let you feel the missing factor and the new twists in the story line keep the interest alive. However as the secret is revealed, it doesn’t turn out to be that convincing or hard hitting at all, hampering the overall impact of an engrossing watch as it ends. Thankfully made on a fresh subject, the film begins on a shaky note but then goes on to deliver the promised humor constantly, mainly through its well written lines. Revolving around a computer hacker caught in a messy trap, it has some cool graphics, better than many other films of the past using the same element. At times romance disturbs the progression but the justification arrives later as the con begins and there are very few drops in its narration before the long climax. So keeping this fact and the film’s fresh, out of the routine subject in mind, this very well attempted metro entertainer,is one movie which is highly recommended!

2.1 Phata Poster Nikla Hero

Cast- Shahid Kapoor, Ileana, Padmini Kolhapure

Director- Rajkumar Santoshi

Plot- After Vishwas Rao (Shahid Kapoor) is raised up by his Mother (Padmini Kolhapure), who apparently dreams for him to become a Police Inspector. However, he has different plans in mind. Vishwas wants to become a film hero.

Our take- The director has created laughtons like Andaaz Apna Apna & Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani, this film is no different, agreed the film did not do too well at the BO, but it doesnt make this bad one. Phata Poster Nikla Hero is an entertaining, funny & action-packed film, that also offers energetic music & a terrific performance by its leading man Shahid Kapoor & heroine Illena. Shahid is terrific from start to end. He enacts the comic, emotional as well as the action-sequences faultlessly, proving he is among the most versatile actors of the country. This film is a complete family entertainer & like they say in India “paisa vasool”

2.2. Mere Dad Ki Maruti

Cast- Saqib Saleem, Rhea Chakraborty, Ram Kapoor

Director- Ashima Chibber

Plot- Everyone’s dancing and making merry in the Khullar household, especially Tej who is all set to gift would-be son-in-law Raj and daughter Tanvi a brand new Maruti Ertiga gaddi on their wedding day. While the wedding preparations are in full swing, Tej’s son Sameer is the daft guy who aspires to woo the hot ‘Shakira of Chandigarh’ Jazzleen. She calls him ‘psychic’ (thinking it’s the same as ‘psycho’) and he tells her, ‘I am love you’. In order to patau the pataka, Sameer uses the new car and ends up losing it! The car goes missing, thus forcing Sameer and his best friend Gattu to form a complex web of lies to save Sameer from the wrath of his father.

Our take- The movie is fresh and entertaining but it is just about a Punjabi Family & a Maruti car. It lacks good music (my personal opinion) but that’s all OK except the title song “Mere Dad Ki Maruti”. Anyone would like this film for sure. It has its moments and all the actors were seemed committed to their performances. It has funny coincidences all around. If you haven’t been to a Punjabi Wedding like I haven’t then this could be your chance 😀 Overall its a great film to watch with family and friends and don’t forget to keep some snacks. For 90 min. or so forget your sorrows and feel relaxed

3. Krrish 3

Cast- Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Viveik Oberoi & Kangna Ranaut.

Director- Rakesh Roshan

Plot- Krrish and his scientist father have to save the world and their own family from an evil man named Kaal and his team of human-animal mutants led by the ruthless Kaya. Will they succeed? How?

Our take- This film had high expectations, well its not bad nor is it great, it lies in that thin line between. Hrithik excels in the dual role of the superhero & his father, but fails to look like an average guy. Priyanka irritates & is kept in the movie only for the sake of continuity to the series. Viveik Oberoi always plays the antagonist very well, no different here, until he becomes the poor man’s Iron Man in the climax, & decided to go way over the top. Kangana Ranaut is the saving grace here, she manages to steal the show from everyone in every sequence she exists. The movie does raise the bar of VFX in Bollywood (only climax sequences) even though has many questionable similarities to notable Hollywood films. Nevertheless this films is aimed at Kids & should be seen at least once.

4.Shuddh Desi Romance

Cast- Sushant Singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra, Rishi Kapoor & Vaani Kapoor

Director- Maneesh Sharma

Plot-A story about the hair-raising minefield between love, attraction and commitment.

Our Take- From the director of Band Baaja Baarat, this films gives a different take on the issues of live in relationships & commitment issues. It has good music, hilarious moments & yes the movie is success at the BO. As this is the 2nd venture of once TV actor Sushant Singh you can see the confidence build up to carry a film on its own.The guy is to be watched out for! Parineeti is slowly & carefully climbing the success ladder, this film shows why she deserves to be at the op. Debutant Vaani Kapoor is an eternal beauty & a scene stealer. She manages to grab your eye balls in every frame she appears. Those who are looking for soothing romantic comedy for the weekend this one is for you!

5. B.A.Pass

The Cast – Shadab Kamal, Shilpa Shukla, Dibyendu Bhattacharya

The Director – Ajay Bahl

The Plot – After losing his parents in a car accident, Mukesh stays at his Aunt’s house in Delhi. Enrolled in a good for nothing course in college he finds peace by playing chess at the local cemetery, the rest of the times he worries over ways to make a living and taking care of his sisters. ‘B.A.Pass’ is a story looking at the fatal promise of a new life. When Mukesh meets Sarika ‘auntie’ at a kitty party, little does he know of the city and it’s ways and means to survive. Sarika seduces Mukesh, shy and inexperienced he falls for her. What follows is a twist of destiny, a kind of story that appears in the tabloids as ‘heinous acts of crime’ .

Our Take – Based on a short story Railway Auntie, this film portrays the underbelly of the metropolitan city in the most shocking manner! A theme which has hardly matured in the Hindi language gets into the depth of what circumstances & seduction can lead to. Shilpa Shukla takes a 360 degree turn from her character played in Chakde India! & literally brings evil in a sexy manner onscreen. Shadab Kamal has portrayed smaller roles in multi star cast films before, but here he carries the whole film on his shoulders to the very end. An actor to watch out for! Kudos to Ajay Bahl for bringing such a shocking film to us!!
