Synopsis – A group of friends on a weekend trip to a cabin in the woods find themselves terrorized by alien visitors.
My Take – This film is produced by the Vicious Brothers, the guyies behind Grave Encounters (2011), one of the best found footage films ever!! While this one is not shot in that style, but does manage to give it as an ode to the genre in certain sections of the film, good call! Unlike, Grave Encounters, this film is totally an unoriginal, completely intentionally done mimicry of the genre possibly out of adoration.
The film has a ton of cringe-worthy moments in terms of the script, but the overall movie is one that you just cant help but keep watching. If you are a fan of sci-fi you will recognize certain ideas and scenes from older hit movies-series, but I guess it was all intentional with a goal to bring these to younger audiences. About the ending, I must say I didn’t see that coming and at first it made me angry but then I recognized a character from a certain old popular TV series (guess?)at the end and it all got clear. The strongest point was how the movie shifted. Directed Colin Minihan has used really gorgeous colors & visuals (especially for a B movie) to create an almost comedic atmosphere which still manages to be scary. Especially the last 20 minutes of the film is sure to bring back your fears in alien abductions.
Well of course the cast hams to no end in terms of performance, but I think I’ve seen worse in top productions. Extraterrestrial is a kind of a sci fi film which tells a story told many times before but cleans it up in a very classy way, if have enjoyed the good old days, this is a film to watch, unless you want innovation or surprises, you’ll have to look elsewhere.
