Synopsis – 1-Nenokkadine is a coming of the age psychological thriller. Gowtham (Mahesh Babu) is a rock star who is troubled by the shadows of his misty past. The movie jump starts when he avenges his parents death by killing the antagonist. He surrenders before law pleading guilty, only to realize that this one of his paranoia attacks. Sameera (Kriti Sanon) is a journalist who takes interest in his case to get him out of it, but instead gets stuck in the turmoil in a whole different dimension. So now Gowtham has to prove to the world that his visions are not just any results of some psychotic disorder but also save his and Sameera’s neck in the aftermath. So the remnant of the movie revolves around how Gowtham fights his inner chaos and also the confusing world around him.
My Take – I usually don’t watch South Indian films due to the huge language barrier, but now & then an interesting premise manages to grab my attention, in this film’s case its also the 8.8 rating on IMDB! Here, the film is about a rock star suffering from a mental disorder due to certain mental scares suffered during his adolescence. Owing to such health he fails to recognize the difference between reality & fiction.
Basically like many other South Indian films, this one is also a revenge drama, but this time proceedings are woven in a complex web, with many twists thrown here & there, the director has forced the audience to think in order to entangle their understanding of events taking place. Yes, in order to still engage the “masala” audience, songs, over the top action & a romantic angle have been forced into the screenplay! & at times hamper the films flow, hence the 170 minutes run time! Special Kudos to the background music by Devi Sri Prasad & cinematography for providing a Hollywoodish grandeur feel!
About the Performances, as the main lead Mahesh Babu lives in his character and justified at best! Kriti Sanon (who incidentally also debuted in Bollywood with Heropanti) is very likeable & get to showcase her talents well in her maximum screen space (unlike other actresses in South Indian films). On the Whole “ONE” is a brave attempt for Tollywood combined with Mahesh performance , DSP music, Kirti Sanon beautiful camera friendly face, clever screenplay, intelligent cinematography, this is one hell of a psychological thriller!
