P.K. (2014) Review!! ‬ ‬ ‬ ‬ ‪

PK-Movie-movizonline.com-Synopsis – A stranger in the city asks questions no one has asked before. Known only by his initials, P.K.’s innocent questions and childlike curiosity will take him on a journey of love, laughter and letting-go.

My Take – This team – director Raj Kumar Hirani & producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra have different sensibilities, they look at cinema in a different angle be it the Munna Bhai series or 3 Idiots (2009) or the very under rated  Ferrari Ki Sawaari (2012). Their depiction of serious subjects filled with light hearted humor & emotions have been a delight to watch. Just like before, this film aims at another seriously debatable issue of our country – Religions & the men behind it. Yes, it does has some similarities with the previously released OMG : Oh My God (2012), Raju Hirani adds more layers to the script & manages to keep it fresh. The story follows an Alien aka P.K (Aamir Khan) who lands on earth to study human beings and their lifestyle, but loses the “remote control” to his spaceship. Unknown to the language & the people, PK has a tough time, eventually finding a good friend in the form of Bhairav Singh (Sanjay dutt). In search of his remote control, PK reaches Delhi where he ends up meeting an aspiring journalist Jagat Janani (Anushka Sharma), who has recently returned from Prague after a failed relationship with Sarfaraz (Sushant Singh Rajput). What happens next forms the rest of the story.

PK-Movie-Stills-10The basic crux of the plot is quite entertaining and has an interesting take on the debatable beliefs of our society that have been existing since centuries, all being blended well with some satire, good humor and enough emotion. Raju Hirani has come up with a unusual storyline and while the presentation was rich, the narrative was quite absorbing. The dialogues were well written. The script was above average and the screenplay made it lot better. The film communicates a nice message of Unity in our society, that is filled with superstitious traditions, deceptive & discriminated with orthodox beliefs that divide all human being in the name of religion be it Christians, Sikhs, Hindus, Buddhists or Muslims etc.  The inevitable consequence of orthodox beliefs & discrimination in the name of religion leads to misconception about people. All religions are divinely inspired, but they are imperfect because they are products of the human mind and taught by human beings based on their own moral ethics as every religious man believes his belief is perfect! Hirani’s Direction is simple, yet effective. Dialogues by director and writer duo are perfect, hilarious and logical. The lead’s whole journey will leave you in splits. His voice against the God-Men, are clap-worthy, while his intended romance with a human girl, is cute. What’s truly funny, is that, P.K, an alien, looks far more sorted & normal in comparison to the human characters. And that’s Hirani’s genius! He delivers a story about our fears & flaws & he executes it, remarkably well.  Music by Various Artists is tuneful. Visual Effects are decent.

PK-film-10-600x3991This film could have been what is if not for Aamir Khan! He delivers a moving, heartfelt performance, that touches the core of your heart. He carries the film on his board shoulders & steals the show. From his physique to his language, the actor is simply brilliant. Indulging himself in a role of an innocent outsider, he speaks more with his expressions than any of the actors do with their words. Anushka Sharma was competent and does her best. She plays an adequately important role in doing her best to join the humor & highlighting the drama. Also, Her on-screen chemistry with Aamir, is adorable. Sanjay Dutt was amazing in a small but effective role. Sushant Singh Rajput, also, shines in a brief role. Saurabh Shukla is incredible as the God-Man. His scenes with Aamir, are captivating. Boman Irani is awesome, as always! Director Rajkumar Hirani yet again proves that he is supremely talented filmmaker & indeed a genius! On the whole PK is a movie which manages to entertain you thoroughly with its humor & thought process. PK is out to provoke but not to shock. The film asks questions which we may I have thought about, but could never voice them. PK is an adventure which will make you laugh heartily, & send you down an emotional roller coaster. If you have people with orthodox thinking in your proximity or people who are led to blind beliefs of religious drama or are puritanical, PK is just the movie for them. Raju Hirani has given us a perfect good bye to the year 2014.
