‘Prison Break’ taking shape to return as a limited series!!

The Prison Break limited series, which has been in the works for months at Fox, is slowly coming together. I hear no formal talks have been initiated yet but creator/executive producer Paul Scheuring is interested and has come up an idea for the serialized drama’s new chapter. Securing the creative voice is considered crucial in reviving cult dramas with new limited series installments, with The X-Files creator Chris Carter driving Fox’s follow-up, Heroes creator Tim Kring in charge of NBC’s Heroes Reborn and David Lynch and Mark Frost reteaming for the new Twin Peaks installment at Showtime. Along with Scheuring, also rumored to return are fellow Prison Break executive producers Marty Adelstein and Dawn Parouse.

Stars Wentworth Miller, who got his break on Prison Break, and Dominic Purcell both have acknowledged publicly that they would love to come back for a limited-run installment. Both are expected to return for the follow-up.

Not surprisingly, like the much lauded Season 1 of the original series, I hear the new installment likely would chronicle a prison break, focusing again on brothers Michael (Miller) and Lincoln (Purcell) — possibly trading places — who might be joined by a third co-lead character. I hear the idea is for many original cast members to reprise their roles with cameos in the limited series.

Unlike the stars of The X-Files, who are off doing different things, making scheduling extremely difficult, Miller and Purcell will have their work schedules synched up for the foreseeable future as they co-star together on the CW’s upcoming drama DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow.

Reviving Prison Break, as referenced today by TVLine, and The X-Files had been among the first priorities for Fox toppers Dana Walden and Gary Newman when they took over the network last summer while continuing to oversee sibling 20th Century Fox TV. Along with 24, which is working on a second limited-series installment, X-Files and Prison Break have been top moneymakers for 20th TV worldwide, making extending the franchises an extremely lucrative proposition for the company.
