Arnold’s Terminator Genisys opens big in China!!

Terminator Genisys, the fifth installment of the popular Terminator franchise, recorded the fourth-biggest opening day for a U.S. release in China, earning $27.4 million after premiering last weekend across 25,000 locations.

Arnold has joined some elite cinematic company.

Only three U.S. films boast higher opening day numbers in China than and Terminator Genisys, and, surprisingly, they’re all sequels: Furious 7 ($63 million), The Avengers 2 ($33.9 million), and Transformers 2 ($30 million).

The overseas numbers are in stark contrast to Terminator Genisys’ domestic box office earnings.

The the sci-fi action film, which also stars Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney, Dayo Okeniyi, and J.K. Simmons, grossed just $44 million over its Wednesday to Sunday, July 4th opening weekend, on its way to a lower than expected $88 million domestically.

The overseas success of the film is welcome news to Paramount/Viacom as a sequel to the movie had previously been scheduled for a May 19th, 2017 release.

Up next you can see Schwarzenegger in Triplets, a sequel to the 1988 film Twins directed by Ivan Reitman and penned by Josh Gad, and The Legend of Conan, a follow-up to 1982’s Conan the Barbarian.
