With Star Wars and Captain America: Civil War and Batman v Superman swirling around, 20th Century Fox aims to remain part of the blockbuster conversation with a slew of terrific new character posters for its superhero epic X-Men: Apocalypse. Picking up 10 years after the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past, the 1983-set film finds the core X-Men scattered across the globe, only to be reunited by the arrival of Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac), perhaps the world’s first mutant. The villain is bent on worldwide destruction with the aim of starting humanity anew, with mutants atop the food chain, and it’s up to Professor X (James McAvoy), a couple of familiar faces—like Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), and Quicksilver (Evan Peters)—and some young newcomers to put a halt to Apocalypse’s plans.
Complicating matters is the fact that Apocalypse has assembled a mutant team of his own, as his Four Horsemen are made up of Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Psylocke (Olivia Munn), and Angel (Ben Hardy). These new posters let each mutant shine via his or her own unique powers, and I’m looking forward to seeing folks like Cyclops and Jean Grey visualized anew given the advances in technology since the characters were last seen onscreen.
So take a look at the various posters below (via CBM), followed by links to my extensive set visit coverage for a deeper dive into what to expect from X-Men: Apocalypse. The film also stars Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Lana Candor, Rose Byrne, and Josh Helman and opens in theaters on May 27th.
