20th Century Fox has unveiled a slew of character posters for director Tim Burton’s new film Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, further teasing the delightfully supernatural tone of the picture as well as the various abilities of the titular kids. The first trailer for the movie elicited many comparisons to X-Men given that the story of a secret refuge for supernaturally gifted children run by a benevolent gifted adult is, well, familiar, but this basic setup appears to be where the similarities end.
Based on the novel of the same name by Ransom Riggs—which itself is the first in a series of books—Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children stars Asa Butterfield as a young boy who uncovers the secret titular home and meets Eva Green’s head honcho. However, soon after the discovery, it’s revealed that malevolent forces are at work that threaten the safety of the innocent (and gifted) children housed therein.
Working from a screenplay by Jane Goldman (Stardust, X-Men: First Class), Burton directs this supernatural story that hopefully marks a return to form for the director who, frankly, hasn’t made a good film in quite some time. These new character posters are certainly intriguing, and I’m eager to see how Burton and cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel actualize many of these peculiarities.
Check out the posters below, via the film’s official Twitter. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Judi Dench, Chris O’Dowd, Allison Janney, Terence Stamp, Kim Dickens, and Rupert Everett and opens in theaters on September 30th.
