Saw went on a tear of movies from 2004 to 2010, but has lain dormant since. Back in 2014, we reported that producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules were interested in reviving the series. At the time the producers said:

We kind of wanted to build it up. Our goal is to go to Comic-Con, not next summer but the summer after [2016] with our heads up saying, ‘Here we go.’ James and Leigh are comfortable with the success they’ve had. And it’s time. James is in post on his movie. Leigh’s on post on [Insidious Chapter 3]. Everyone has time and it’s time.

Well we’re coming up on Comic-Con 2016, and it looks like the producers have found a directing duo to handle the latest installment in the horror franchise. According to Bloody Disgusting, the directors of the tentatively titled SAW: Legacy will be Daybreakers helmers Peter and Michael Spierig.

While the Spierig Brothers were set to helm Winchester Mystery House (which could easily be an alternative title for Supernatural), that’s probably going on the backburner since SAW: Legacy is scheduled to shoot from September to October in Toronto.

There’s still no official confirmation that the Spierig Brothers have the gig, but I assume that could come sometime during Comic-Con next week. I’m not a huge fan of the Saw franchise, but the Spierigs are interesting directors. Daybreakers is a lot of fun, and their latest film, Predestination is a twisty time-traveling thriller with a great performance from Sarah Snook.
