At this point, FX has become primarily known for its dramas, from The Shield to The Americans, but the network’s comedies that have really endured – ArcherLouie, etc. – are arguably some of the best comedy series of this decade. That’s the reason that Atlanta and Better Things are amongst the most anticipated shows of the Fall TV seasons, comedy or otherwise.

It’s also the reason that when word came out recently that Singularity, the artificial-intelligence-centric comedy from Silicon Valley writer-producer Sonny Lee, had been given a pilot order from FX, people got interested right quick. Lee’s pilot, which centers on a future world where artificial intelligence has pushed well beyond humankind’s potential and capacity for intellect, most prominently hooked producers in Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the men behind This is the End and Sausage Party.

According to THR, Goldberg and Rogen are set to produce Singularity under their Point Grey banner, making this their third recent foray into television. The results have been pretty excellent so far, as the first season of Preacher offered a wild, witty conflation of the beloved graphic novels that the series was based on. Meanwhile, the duo is working on the pilot of Future Man for Hulu.

For Lee, who has also worked on 2 Broke Girls and Outsourced, the show offers the opportunity to yet again find the comedy in the variety of nuances in technological advancements. There’s no telling yet if Lee’s pilot will be focused directly on how the AI beings function or communicate, but one would assume, from the tone of Silicon Valley, that he won’t fully evade that element of the story. Regardless, Singularity has the makings of another landmark comedy for FX, which makes the ensuing wait for the show to premiere all the more pestering.
