After many months of cute marketing, Netflix has finally unveiled an actual trailer for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. The event series is the long-awaited continuation of the fan-favorite drama, which ran for seven seasons on The WB and The CW until its conclusion in 2007. Many fans were upset by the show’s ending, however, given that series creator/showrunner Amy Sherman-Palladino left/was pushed out of the series before its final season, leading to an ending not crafted by the driving creative force of the show for its first six seasons. Sherman-Palladino returns to craft her ending of the series now with Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, which consists of four 90-minute episodes that each focus on a different season: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall.
All episodes were penned by Sherman-Palladino and her husband/co-writer Daniel Palladino, and the series picks up in real-time, nine years after the events of the original series finale. Lorelai’s relationship with Luke is at a standstill; Rory’s journalism career has stalled; and Emily’s world is turned upside down by the passing of her husband Richard.
This new trailer offers our first full look at the revival, and fans will no doubt be happy to see the return of nearly every single familiar face from the show. It’ll be interesting to see if Sherman-Palladino sticks the landing here, especially with this new format that kind of results in four movies instead of 44-minute-long episodes. Regardless, plenty of families will be huddled around their Netflix over Thanksgiving.
