It’s gonna be a long road to get to James Mangold‘s Logan debut in March. That journey will likely continue to be marked by the occasional still or storyboard image released by Mangold, star Hugh Jackman, or the marketing team for the 20th Century Fox film. We’re not complaining; the shots released so far look gorgeous and promise a cinematic intimacy for the title character that we haven’t really seen on the big screen just yet.
And yet, as beautiful as these black-and-white images are, the recently released trailer shows that Logan will, of course, be a tradtional color film. The story follows a far-flung future Logan who is tasked with protecting a young girl by an aging Professor X. Logan’s last ride, which will also be Jackman’s final turn as the clawed mutant Wolverine, will be R-rated, a fitting end for a fan-favorite character. Now we just have to look forward to the film’s eventual home video release to see if Mangold offers us a black-and-white cut like George Miller did with his recent release of Mad Max: Fury Road.
Also starring Patrick Stewart, Boyd Holbrook, Dafne Keen, Stephen Merchant, and Richard E. Grant, Logan opens March 3, 2017.
