First ‘Homeland’ Season 6 Trailer Teases Major Confrontations, Location Change!!! Check It Out!!

Homeland - Season 4 - Key Art

Homeland Season 6 has returned to U.S. soil and is filming in New York, where its story will be closely tied to the election. In fact, a new synopsis for the season says that the new episode arc will take place between Election Day and the Inauguration, with the halls of the nation’s agencies full of confusion during a time of transition. Basically, it’s the perfect time and place for some major confrontations to go down, even if these political realities are probably hitting a little too close to home.

The first trailer for Season 6 sees Carrie (Claire Danes), Saul (Mandy Patinkin), and Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham) all looking stressed out and pissed, and there sees to be a big promise that this season will be as emotionally fraught as Season 4 (which, aside from Season 1, may be the show’s best). Though Season 5’s trek to Berlin was an interesting palette cleanser to what we had seen before, returning to the U.S. and focusing on bureaucratic power plays and how Carrie seeks to operate both from within and outside the system may bring us a great set of episodes. Check out the new trailer below:

What we didn’t see in this trailer is anything about Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend), although at the summer TCA press tour EP Alex Gansa confirmed that while Quinn is alive, he suffered a major stroke, so he will be “very changed and altered.” But in what way?

Homeland returns Sunday, January 15th at 9 p.m. on Showtime. In the meantime, check out the official synopsis for this coming season below:

After she thwarted a terrorist attack in Berlin, season six picks up several months later and finds Carrie Mathison (Danes) back on American soil, living in Brooklyn, New York. She has begun working at a foundation whose efforts are to provide aid to Muslims living in the U.S. Season six will tackle the after effects of the U.S. presidential election, with the entire season taking place between election day and the inauguration. It’s a strange, transitional time in the halls of government filled with anxiety and different competing interests, where a very fragile and complex transfer of power takes place between the outgoing president and the incoming president-elect. Guest stars this season include Hill Harper (Limitless), Robert Knepper (Prison Break), Patrick Sabongui (The Flash) and Dominic Fumusa (NURSE JACKIE).
