Warner Bros. has released a batch of new high-resolution images from the upcoming Rampage movie, which is based on the popular arcade game of the same name. This film iteration finds San Andreas filmmaker Brad Peyton directing a monster-filled actioner starring Dwayne Johnson. The Rock plays a primatologist who shares a close bond with an intelligent silverback gorilla named George, but their relationship is upended when a rogue genetic experiment mutates the gorilla into a giant monster. He’s not the only one, as the experiment also results in a giant wolf and a giant crocodile, and the three beasts lay waste to Chicago.
These new images offer a closer look at the designs of the three creatures, which fans of the game are no doubt curious to see. We knew from the first trailer that the wolf could fly, and the design here is pretty nifty and terrifying. The crocodile, meanwhile, is simply enormous, and I like the idea of using helicopters to reinforce the scale of these creatures.
Take a closer look at the images below. The film also stars Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman, Joe Manganiello, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, P.J. Byrne, Marley Shelton, Breanne Hill, Jack Quaid, Matt Gerald, Jason Liles, Demetrius Grosse, and Will Yun Lee. Rampage opens in theaters on April 13th.
Here’s the official synopsis for Rampage:
Primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry mutates this gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered animals. As these newly created alpha predators tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.
