Despite the impending Disney takeover, 20th Century Fox isn’t showing any signs of slowing down with its new projects, with Deadline reporting that the studio is in the early stages of development on a remake of 1993’s Rookie of the Year.
The original film was directed by Daniel Stern and starred Thomas Ian Nicholas (American Pie) as a young Little Leaguer who suffers a broken arm catching a ball. When it heals, he discovers he’s now got an incredible pitching arm, which leads to him being recruited by the Major League Baseball team the Chicago Cubs.
Dan Gregor and Doug Mand (Most Likely to Murder, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) are closing a deal to script the remake, with Gregor directing. The film will be produced by Bob Harper, who also produced the original movie.
