‘Crazy Rich Asians 2’: Constance Wu Confirms Sequel Is Still Some Time Away!!!

It only took a few days from the film’s opening for Warner Bros. to announce that it would be moving forward on a sequel to this year’s smash hit romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians, but according to leading lady Constance Wu, we may have a wait on our hands before we actually see it.

Speaking to Deadline at the Vulture Film Festival, Wu stated that: “I don’t know much about the production side of things. But I know that [director Jon M. Chu} wants to direct the next one, and all next year he’s directing In The Heights.”

Wu also went on to reveal that she’s unsure at present whether the sequel will incorporate material from the next two books in author Kevin Kwan’s series, China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems.

Produced on a $30 million budget, Crazy Rich Asians became the highest-grossing romantic comedy of the past decade with its release this year, where it grossed over $236 million worldwide.

New Yorker Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) receives an invitation from her boyfriend Nick Young (Henry Golding) to his best friend’s wedding in Singapore. Excited about visiting Asia for the first time but nervous about meeting Nick’s family, Rachel is unprepared to learn that Nick has neglected to mention a few key details about his life…

It turns out that he is not only the scion of one of the country’s wealthiest families but also one of its most sought-after bachelors. Being on Nick’s arm puts a target on Rachel’s back, with jealous socialites and, worse, Nick’s own disapproving mother (Michelle Yeoh) taking aim. And it soon becomes clear that while money can’t buy love, it can definitely complicate things.

Crazy Rich Asians features a cast that also includes Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Gemma Chan, Lisa Lu, Awkwafina, Harry Shum Jr., Ken Jeong, and Michelle Yeoh, Sonoya Mizuno, Chris Pang, Jimmy O. Yang, Ronny Chieng, Remi Hii, Nico Santos, and Jing Lusi.
