‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’: Extended Cut Coming to Blu-ray and Digital HD!!!

When Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald hits home video in a few short weeks, fans will be treated to a some new footage they didn’t see in theaters. Not only that, but the deleted scenes have been put back into the film, resulting in a fully fledged Fantastic Beasts 2 extended cut.

This isn’t the first time a film from the Harry Potter universe has gotten an extended cut on home video. The first two Potter films got “extended editions” on DVD and eventually Blu-ray, owing to director Chris Columbus’ aim to capture as much book material on film as possible. But beyond that, while the TV version of Goblet of Fire features a song that wasn’t in the theatrical cut, the other Potter films simply included deleted scenes on the Blu-rays and not as part of a new, extended cut of the film.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald hits Digital HD on February 15th and 4K Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD on March 12th, at which point the extended cut of the film will be available. This new cut includes seven minutes of footage that wasn’t in the theatrical cut, and indeed during the press tour the cast wasn’t shy about revealing that there was plenty of footage shot for the film that didn’t make it into the movie. Fans will no doubt be curious to see what this entails, and if it further sheds light on some of those major reveals late in the movie.

The home video release also includes over an hour of bonus features, including featurettes that delve into Dumbledore, the return to Hogwarts, and J.K. Rowling herself.

Production on Fantastic Beasts 3 is due to begin this summer with director David Yates once again returning, so we’re not yet near the end of this planned five-film franchise. Check out the full list of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald bonus features and box art below.
