‘Mare of Easttown’: Kate Winslet to Lead HBO Limited Series!!

Kate Winslet is returning to the small screen with the HBO limited series Mare Of Easttown. It’s her second collaboration with HBO, having played the title role in the 2011 miniseries Mildred Pierce (for which she won an Emmy). According to Deadline, in Easttown Winslet will play a “small-town Pennsylvania detective whose life crumbles around her as she investigates a local murder.” The series was created by Brad Ingelsby (Run All Night, Out of the Furnace), who will also serve as showrunner, with Gavin O’Connor (The Accountant) directing all the episodes.

Movie stars are continuing to gravitate towards limited TV series, particularly on HBO, which saw Amy Adams recently star in its Sharp Objects miniseries, as well as Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon returning for a second season of Big Little Lies (which was a big Emmy winner in its first season). Oscar winner (and nominated yet again recently) Mahershala Ali is also in the lead role in the new (and improved) season of True Detective.

Winslet, of course, won an Oscar for The Reader in 2008, but has been nominated 5 other times. She rarely picks a terrible project to be a part of (or at the very least will elevate something mediocre), having played iconic roles in movies like Titanic and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and delightful ones in Sense & Sensibility, The Holiday, and Finding Neverland. Her resume is really astounding, and a good place to start if you’re looking to expand your film knowledge (and add some great movies to your queue).
