ABC Cancels Female-led Planned Marvel Team-up series from ‘Wonder Woman’ Writer!!!

Last September it was announced that ABC had enlisted Wonder Woman screenwriter Allan Heinberg to develop a pilot for a new female-fronted Marvel Television project, but now comes word that the network has opted not to move ahead with the potential series.

According to Deadline, the hourlong drama would have focused on a team of lesser-known female heroes, and had received a big pilot production commitment from the network, with Heinberg and Marvel Television chief Jeph Loeb serving as executive producers. No reason has been given for the decision, and it is possible that Marvel and ABC may look to redevelop it.

ABC has been looking to launch a new Marvel TV series to accompany Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which was recently renewed for a seventh season. Shows such as Agent Carter and Inhumans failed to attract a big enough audience, while the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff Marvel’s Most Wanted didn’t manage to make it to the pilot stage, nor did A.K.A. Jessica Jones, although this was subsequently redeveloped into the Netflix series Jessica Jones.
