Marvel Studios has released a new TV spot for Captain Marvel. Set in the 1990s, the story follows Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), a former Air Force pilot who becomes part-alien and becomes embroiled in an intergalactic war between the Kree and the shapeshifting Skrulls.
I’m very curious to see how Captain Marvel will perform. Presumably, it will do at least as well as any other Marvel film, but I’m curious if it will hit the zeitgeist in the same way that Black Panther did. You can see from this TV spot that Marvel is really hitting the theme of female empowerment (“I’m kind of done with people telling me what I can’t do,” says Captain Marvel), and I wonder if that will get people talking as Marvel finally puts a female superhero front and center.
Check out the new Captain Marvel TV spot below. The film opens March 8th and also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Rune Temte, Algenis Perez Soto, Mckenna Grace, Annette Bening, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.
