Batman’s gone up against a lot of adversaries over the character’s 80s years in existence. (Let that sink in for a minute.) He’s battled low-level thugs, super-powered criminals and heroes alike, and even clay-based monstrosities and alien menaces of all kinds. But it wasn’t until 2015 that the Caped Crusader came up against a fearsome foursome who were on the right side of the law, but the wrong side of the street … as in, they lived underneath it.
I’m talking, of course, about the DC Comics / IDW crossover event, Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a six-issue miniseries that will be the inspiration behind the latest Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment project. Syfy Wire had the first exclusive look at the upcoming feature, which will arrive this spring. Titled Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the animated movie will not only include the aforementioned production studios, but also fold Nickelodeon into the mix. The children’s network currently plays host to the latest iteration of TMNT, the excellent and super-unique Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Also revealed today was the film’s voice cast, including Troy Baker as both Batman and the Joker, making him the first actor to ever take on both roles for the same project; Darren Criss as Raphael; Kyle Mooney as Michelangelo; Baron Vaughn as Donatello; Eric Bauza as Leonardo; Rachel Bloom as Batgirl; Tom Kenny as the Penguin; John DiMaggio as Mr. Freeze; Tara Strong as both Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy; Carlos Alazraqui as Bane; and Cas Anvar as Ra’s al Ghul.
Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is expected to arrive on 4K, Blu-ray, and Digital late this spring. Also, keep an eye out for Justice League vs. The Fatal Five, another DC Comics animated series that looks to continue the studio’s excellent line of animated adventure films.
