‘True Detective’ Season 3 Finale Trailer Believes Time Is a Flat Circle!! Check It Out!!

Just after last night’s revealing episode of True Detective, HBO dropped the trailer for next week’s Season 3 finale—and there is a lot still up in the air. Episode 7 kind of laid out all the pieces of this engrossing season thus far, setting up Michael Rooker as the head of Hoyt Foods and our potential Big Bad. We saw that Wayne (Mahershala Ali) and Hoyt came into contact in 1990, which offers up even more questions as to why Wayne is participating in the docuseries interviews in the 2015 storyline. Is he still looking for the truth, or is he simply trying to make sure no one but him knows what actually happened?

All will be revealed next week, and I have to say that despite some fans’ hesitation to jump back into the Nic Pizzolatto series after the underwhelming second season, I have been wholly entertained and transfixed by what Pizzolatto has put together for Season 3. The performances from Ali, Stephen Dorff, Carmen Ejogo, and Scoot McNairy are reason enough to tune in, as Ali and Dorff in particular have found exciting ways to reveal little character tidbits throughout the three timelines.

I’m particularly eager to see how Pizzolatto and director Daniel Sackheim wrap this whole thing up, and in my interview with Sackheim about Episode 7 and that big Season 1 moment, he seemed to hint towards potentially even more significant connective tissue to the show’s first season in the upcoming finale:

“Obviously there’s certainly a resemblance between the dolls that do appear in this season and the dolls that appeared in Season 1. But how that connection works out, I can’t really say. You’re just going to have to wait to see. It will become really clear what the connection is, if any, in the finale. But I wouldn’t want to spoil it for anyone beyond that.”

If you’re a fan of the show I suggest checking out the full interview for a deep-dive into how Season 3 was made. For now, check out the True Detective Season 3 finale trailer below. The episode airs on HBO Sunday, February 24th at 9pm ET.
