‘Hellboy’: New Images Glimpses at David Harbour’s Big Red Hero!! Check It Out!!

The second trailer for director Neil Marshall‘s Hellboy was a vast improvement on the first, working overtime to differentiate itself from Guillermo del Toro‘s take on the material by having David Harbour‘s horned hero say the fuck word, horrifically impaling a few people, and then making Daniel Dae Kim‘s Ben Daimio turn into a damn were-jaguar. It’s a whole lot to take in is what I’m saying, so if you wanted a less frantic look at Big Red and the Blood Queen (fantastic band name), these new images released today are just what the witch doctor ordered.

The images feature a new look for Milla Jovovich, going full Little Dead Riding Hood as the ancient sorceress Nimue. There’s also a bit of bonding over an absurdly large gun between Hellboy and magical B.P.R.D. team member Alice Monaghan, played by up-and-comer Sasha Lane. It continues to strike me as odd that on an aesthetic level, this Hellboy movie is…pretty much the same as del Toro’s Hellboy movies. (Guillermo loves wooden forest crowns like the one on Jovovich’s head.) But Harbour is a delight, The Descent earned Neil Marshall benefit of the doubt for life, and, as previously mentioned, were-jaguars. I’m still on board for now.

Check out the images below. Hellboy—which also stars Ian McShane, Alistair Petrie, Penelope Mitchell, and Thomas Haden Church—hits theaters on April 12.

Here is the official synopsis for Hellboy:

Hellboy is back, and he’s on fire. From the pages of Mike Mignola’s seminal work, this action packed story sees the legendary half-demon superhero (David Harbour, “Stranger Things”) called to the English countryside to battle a trio of rampaging giants. There he discovers The Blood Queen, Nimue (Milla Jovovich, Resident Evil series), a resurrected ancient sorceress thirsting to avenge a past betrayal. Suddenly caught in a clash between the supernatural and the human, Hellboy is now hell-bent on stopping Nimue without triggering the end of the world.
