‘Aladdin’: Alan Tudyk to Voice Iago in the Live-Action Movie!!!

Although Iago had been glimpsed in the trailers for Aladdin, we hadn’t seen Jafar’s parrot speak, leading to speculation that maybe in a live-action universe, he wouldn’t have any lines, or not be as loquacious as when Gilbert Gottfried voiced the character in the 1992 animated movie and its sequels. But it looks like Iago will have a voice, and Disney is going to a favorite actor to play the character.

According to THR, Alan Tudyk will play the voice of Iago. It will be interesting to see if Iago has as much of a comic relief role as he had the animated movie. It’s one thing to have Gilbert Gottfried cracking wise as an animated character, but it’s another to be like, “Here’s a real-looking parrot and he has jokes.”

Tudyk has been a voice-acting favorite for Disney since voicing King Candy in 2012’s Wreck-It Ralph. Since then, he’s done the voice for the Duke of Weselton in Frozen, Alistair Krei in Big Hero 6, Duke Weaselton in Zootopia, Heihei in Moana, and KnowsMore in Ralph Breaks the Internet. He also voiced the droid K-2SO in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Tudyk currently plays Mr. Nobody on the DC Universe TV series Doom Patrol.

Aladdin opens May 24th and also stars Will Smith, Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, Marwan Kenzari, Navid Negahban, Nasim Pedrad, Billy Magnussen, and Numan Acar.
