‘Aladdin’: The Upcoming Disney Film Gets a New Clip, Two TV Spots, and a Poster!! Check It Out!!

With an eye towards dominating the Memorial Day weekend, Disney has now released a new clip for Aladdin, two TV spots, and a new poster. Based on the classic animated movie, Guy Ritchie’s live-action adaptation follows the eponymous street thief (Mena Massoud) who discovers a magic lamp and uses his wishes from the genie (Will Smith) to try and become a prince and win the heart of princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott).

I want to be more excited than I am for this movie. I adore the 1992 original, but there’s something kind of soulless about everything we’ve seen so before. It’s very colorful and sparkly, but it doesn’t seem to have a life of its own. Of course, that probably won’t stop it from being a massive hit since most of the live-action Disney movies have been huge at the box office. That being said, there’s an outside chance that trend could be tapering off as Dumbo only made about $109 million domestic, so perhaps the appeal is wearing off. I’m also aware that The Lion King is exempt from all of this and that movie will probably be huge no matter what with Aladdin.

Check out the Aladdin clip, and TV spots below. The film opens May 24th and also stars Marwan Kenzari, Navid Negahban, Nasim Pedrad, and Billy Magnussen.

Here’s the official synopsis for Aladdin:

A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. Directed by Guy Ritchie, who brings his singular flair for fast-paced, visceral action to the fictitious port city of Agrabah, “Aladdin” is written by John August and Ritchie based on Disney’s “Aladdin.” The film stars Will Smith as the Genie; Mena Massoud as Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar; Navid Negahban as the Sultan; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia and Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders.
