‘Jumanji 3’ Wraps Filming as Dwayne Johnson Shares Set Video!! Check It Out!!

Seven months to the day before the film hits theaters, it’s being announced that filming has wrapped on the upcoming Jumanji sequel. Star/producer Dwayne Johnson marked the occasion by sharing a video from the set, in which director Jake Kasdan thanks the cast and crew for all their hard work. Filming has been taking place in an undisclosed desert location, confirming that the setting for Jumanji 3 will be shifting from the jungle aesthetic of the last movie—although there is still some jungle, as the production also returned to Hawaii.

Plot details have been kept firmly under wraps, but Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle stars Johnson, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, and Kevin Hart are all back reprising their roles as video game characters, while Colin Hanks and Nick Jonas are also in the sequel in some capacity. They’re joined by new characters played by Awkwafina, Danny DeVito, and Danny Glover—although again, it’s unclear exactly how this sequel plays out.

The film is on a tight deadline to hit the Christmas 2019 release date, but all appears to be going well. Kasdan earned the gig directing Welcome to the Jungle after helming a string of comedies like Orange County, Bad Teacher, and the supremely underrated Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, and he was enlisted to return for the sequel. Jumanji marked his biggest film yet, but he handled it tremendously and the film was a massive box office success to the tune of $962 million worldwide. Which is why Sony was so keen on getting Jumanji 3 in theaters this Christmas.

With filming complete we can probably expect a debut trailer in the coming months, perhaps attached to the Spider-Man sequel. For now, check out Johnson’s set video below, along with a gorgeous set photo from producer Hiram Garcia. The untitled Jumanji sequel opens in theaters on December 13, 2019.
