Quentin Tarantino’s next film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, is about, well, Hollywood, so it’s only appropriate that the marketing for the film leans into the self-reflexive nature of the 1969-set film. Leonardo DiCaprio leads the cast as Rick Dalton, a mildly famous TV actor who’s having trouble transitioning into movies. In a new poster released for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, we actually get a look at a poster for a movie within the movie, the Rick Dalton vehicle Operazione Dyn-O-Mite!. It looks incredibly silly and completely believable.
This is the first of what I hope are many marketing materials that offer a look into the world of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which co-stars Brad Pitt as Dalton’s easy-going stunt man Cliff. We know that Tarantino is a fan of loading his films up with in-universe Easter Eggs, like Red Apple cigarettes that appear in multiple Tarantino films or even references to characters from different films. With Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Tarantino gets to create his own little fictional Hollywood universe, and the poster for Operazione Dyn-O-Mite! is but one little peek into that world. It also must be said that the poster for the fake movie is better than the poster for the actual movie…
Check out the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood poster below. The film opens in theaters on July 26th and also stars Timothy Olyphant, Scoot McNairy, Damian Lewis, Luke Perry, Dakota Fanning, James Marsden, Clifton Collins, Keith Jefferson, Emile Hirsch, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Danny Strong, Sydney Sweeney, Clu Gulager, James Landry Hébert, Mikey Madison, Al Pacino, Lena Dunham, Maya Hawke, and Nicholas Hammond, among others.
