Twenty years after it changed horror movies forever, “The Blair Witch Project” is being made into a video game.
The upcoming adaptation, titled “Blair Witch,” was announced by Microsoft Sunday with a new trailer during Xbox’s annual E3 presentation in Los Angeles. Developed by Bloober Team, the creators of “Layers of Fear” and “Observer,” the new game will be a first person horror adventure title available for Xbox One and PC on Aug. 30.
“It’s 1996. A young boy disappears in the Black Hills Forest near Burkittsville, Maryland,” says the official press release. “As Ellis, a former police officer with a troubled past, you join the search. What starts as an ordinary investigation soon turns into an endless nightmare as you confront your fears and the Blair Witch, a mysterious force that haunts the woods.”
“Blair Witch” wasn’t the only time Hollywood and video games crossed paths during E3’s presentation. Keanu Reeves, fresh off his “John Wick: Chapter 3” success, appeared at the show to announce that he would be featured in CD Projekt’s “Cyberpunk 2077,” which will be released April 2020. Other games featured during the presentation included “Halo Infinite,” “Gears of War 5” and a Lego expansion for the racing game “Forza Horizon 4.”
