I’ll be frank with you — I am all about that high-falutin’ “interactive experience > video game” life. If a game (or experience, or whatever you wanna call it) pushes the limits of our relationship to it being a “game,” offers narrative immersion over typical AAA trappings, and otherwise feels like an art installation, I’m all in, baby! Thus, the trailer for Annapurna Interactive’s (yes, like the indie film company who made films like Hustlers and Booksmart) Twelve Minutes is catnip to me. And the gobsmacking A-list cast doesn’t hurt, either.
James McAvoy and Daisy Ridley are a couple. And Willem Dafoe is an intruder who’s about to make the next twelve minutes of their lives miserable. And then… the next twelve minutes. And so on and so on, as these characters are stuck in this time loop of abduction and horror, trying desperately to make their way out of their horrific fate. From its odd top-down perspective, to its old-school-meets-new-school point-and-click interface, Twelve Minutes looks to draw you into its surreal, disquieting world of atmosphere and terror. And I!
