DC Comics Announce a New Universe Called DC Future State!!

Get ready to experience a whole new DC Universe when 2021 rolls around. The publisher has just shared the first official details for DC Future State, a special two-month event that looks ahead to a time when new characters step up to fill the mantles of DC’s most popular superheroes.

The event will kick off in January and spins directly out of the last issue of Dark Nights: Death Metal, which “brings new life to DC’s Multiverse.” Readers will visit a dystopian Gotham City, now a surveillance state ruled by the Magistrate. Although Bruce Wayne has passed on, a new Batman rises to lead a revolt against the city’s oppressors. Meanwhile, Superman has been exiled from Earth following an international crisis. In his absence, his son Jon takes on the responsibility of protecting Metropolis as the next Man of Steel. Jon will also cross paths with Shilo Norman and Yara Flor, who assume the roles of Mister Miracle and Wonder Woman, respectively.

Additionally, DC will imagine future versions of the Justice League and Justice League Dark. This line of titles will also showcase new stories featuring Green Lantern and the Suicide Squad led by Earth-3’s Amanda Waller. Moreover, DC is preparing new miniseries headlined by Aquaman, The Flash, Swamp Thing, Teen Titans, and Shazam. After Future State‘s conclusion, all stories set in the mainline DC Universe will resume in March.

“The DC Universe has always been fertile ground for new and refreshing takes on our characters, and DC Future State definitely contributes to this legacy,” said DC Executive Editor Marie Javins. “When the event begins in January, some savvy readers will not only pick up on some of the breadcrumbs that have already been tossed out in our current titles, but they will also find new hints and clues of what’s to come in 2021.”
