‘Superman and Lois’: First Look Reveals Tyler Hoechlin’s New Costume!! Check It Out!!

The CW has revealed Tyler Hoechlin’s new Superman suit in a promo image for the upcoming series Superman & Lois. The show, set in the Arrowverse (officially known as the CWverse), stars Hoechlin as Clark kent and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane, both of whom have played the roles previously in past appearances on shows like Supergirl. The series is set to premiere on the network in February.

Superman & Lois has gathered an extra level of attention because of its unique role in the Arrowverse. As marquee shows in the franchise like Supergirl and Arrow have either recently ended or announced cancellation, some fans fear the shared universe is coming to end. That theory is somewhat corroborated by DC’s plans to produce more original content with their characters for HBO Max, such as the upcoming Gotham PD, which will tie in with the Robert Pattinson-led The Batman.

The old Arrowverse isn’t over yet though, and now fans can see the newest show’s lead in a shiny new suit. The CW has officially revealed the Kryptonian’s latest outfit, which has a textured near-mesh look, not unlike Henry Cavill’s look from Man of Steel. However, Hoechlin’s outfit also has a classic aesthetic, staying true to more traditional approaches to the famous blue and red tights. “I find that the new suit is representative of the show,” Hoechlin said in a statement. “It represents everything that Superman stands for and has stood for, for almost a century now.” With luck, the new suit will be an elegant blend and please fans both new and old. Though Superman & Lois could bring new life to the Arrowverse, it also is likely to differ notably in its style from other shows in the franchise. The series will return the couple to Clark’s hometown of Smallville and reportedly focus more on the oddities of supernatural people attempting to live ordinary lives. That pitch makes the series feel more akin to The Incredibles than the dark drama of Arrow, though like The Incredibles, it’s sure to have its fair share of action as well.

Still, the show’s future seems dubious before it’s even begun. It’s no secret that streaming services are becoming the de facto prestige platforms for new TV shows, and Warner Bros. will want to make HBO Max as competitive as possible going forward. With DC being one of the company’s most expansive and popular properties, it makes sense to prioritize new streaming content when adapting from the comics going forward. That doesn’t mean there isn’t still room for network content, but it certainly casts doubts. Superman & Lois is set to premiere on February 23, 2021.
