HBO and HBO Max Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys shed more light on how Warner Bros.’ The Batman will connect to the HBO Max prequel/spinoff series centered on the Gotham City Police Department.
When asked by The Wrap if characters from the film could show up in the series, Bloys said, “Matt Reeves is obviously a producer on ‘Gotham City PD.’ We don’t want to reserve characters just for films or for TV. There should be kind of some fluidity between them. So that is the idea. I mean, we’re in very early stages on that. So I don’t want to suggest that any one character will be. But yes, that is, generally speaking, that is the idea, that there will be crossover.”
Announced in July 2020, the yet-to-be-titled Batman series has been described as akin to Ed Brubaker, Greg Rucka and Michael Lark‘s Gotham Central. It’s also been said that it will act as the de facto “Year One” to The Batman, which will explore the Dark Knight’s second year as a crimefighter.
Directed by Matt Reeves and written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrel as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone and Peter Sarsgaard as District Attorney Gil Colson. The film arrives in theaters March 4, 2022.
