‘Stargirl’ Season 2: John Wesley Shipp to Return as Golden Age Flash!!

Stargirl Season 2 has just recruited a major character from The Flash.

According to Entertainment Weekly, longtime Flash star John Wesley Shipp will reprise his role as Jay Garrick in Episode 9 of Stargirl‘s sophomore season. The character description reveals Shipp‘s Garrick will appear “in a pivotal flashback episode” that reveals “the Golden Age Flash as a member of Earth-2’s Justice Society of America.”

The CW confirmed this will “officially bring Stargirl into CW‘s post-Crisis CWverse alongside The Flash, Superman & Lois, Batwoman, Black Lightning, Supergirl, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.” Shipp‘s Stargirl role will mark the first time an Arrowverse character has appeared on the series, as it originally launched as a DC Universe original.

On The Flash, Shipp appeared in several key roles. Initially, he played Barry Allen’s incarcerated father Henry. Following Henry’s death, he appeared as Jay Garrick, the Flash of Earth-2. Finally, during “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” he reprised his role as Barry Allen from 1990’s short-lived The Flash show; in the crossover, however, his character sacrificed his life to save the multiverse. Shipp has not returned to the Arrowverse since, leaving Garrick’s fate up in the air — until now.

In Stargirl, the JSA fell years before the events of the series, after the Injustice Society attacked them at their headquarters. Nearly all of the heroes were killed in the melee, leaving behind their superhero mantles for a new generation. Although he did not physically appear in Season 1, a younger Jay Garrick was featured on much of the imagery surrounding the JSA. Now, Season 2 will show just how involved Garrick was with his fellow JSA members like Starman, Dr. Mid-Nite, Hourman and Wildcat.

Stargirl stars Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore (Stargirl), Luke Wilson as Pat Dugan (S.T.R.I.P.E.), Joel McHale as Sylvester Pemberton (Starman), Trae Romano as Mike Dugan, Yvette Monreal as Yolanda Montez (Wildcat), Amy Smart as Barbara Whitmore, Anjelika Washington as Beth Chapel (Dr. Mid-Nite), Cameron Gellman as Rick Tyler (Hourman), Joy Osmanski as Ms. Brooks (Tigress), Christopher James Baker as Dr. Henry King (Brainwave), Neil Jackson as Jordan Mahkent (Icicle), Nelson Lee as Dr. Ito (Dragon King), Neil Hopkins as Lawrence Crock (Sportsmaster), Jonathan Cake as The Shade, Nick Tarabay as Eclipso and Jim Gaffigan as the voice of Thunderbolt. Season 2 currently does not have an announced release date.
